Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said the finances of the Papua regional government were temporarily frozen after Governor Lukas Enembe was arrested on suspicion of corruption.
“It’s now under our supervision and to some extent it isto freezethrough PPATK, so that there are no abuses that are first and foremost against the law,” Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD told reporters on Wednesday (01/11).
Aside from that, Minister Mahfud MD also called on the parties he called “others” not to take steps to vandalize after Lukas’ arrest.
“The law will apply to everyone without discrimination,” he said.
The former chief judge of the Constitutional Court also explained the reasons for the arrest of Lukas Enembe which he described as “overdue”.
Mahfud MD admitted that he met with KPK President, Firli Bahuri on Thursday (05/01).
At that time they discussed the plan to arrest Lukas, who was initially reported to be undergoing treatment due to illness.
But in reality, said Mahfud MD, Lukas continues to carry out activities like people who are not sick, such as inaugurating a building.
“So, after consulting with me, after discussing with me, the KPK president, in the afternoon of January 5, 2023, it was decided that Lukas Enembbe would be arrested,” he said.
Earlier on Wednesday (11/01) the Commission for the Elimination of Corruption (KPK) reported the progress of the arrest of Papua governor, Lukas Enembe.
“We have an agenda tomorrow afternoon [Rabu siang]. So, the status is still one person arrested within 1 x 24 hours and then we’ll report progress tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow [Rabu, 11 Januari 2023] the leadership was present, including the execution deputy, to explain to the public the progress in handling the case in question,” KPK Report Section Chief Ali Fikri told reporters on Tuesday (10/01).
Papua governor Lukas Enembe was arrested in Jayapura and immediately flown to Jakarta on Tuesday (10/01). Upon his arrival in Jakarta, Enembe was taken to Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) to undergo a medical examination.
As for the reason for the medical visit at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Ali Fikri revealed that Enembe had a history of medical visits at that hospital.
“Obviously there are some considerations because there really is a history of previous examinations at the RSPAD, obviously there is a doctor who examines this who usually knows the suspect’s history of LE,” he said.
The KPK will therefore ask Lukas Enembe for information after he undergoes a medical examination at the RSPAD. If the Governor of Papua is declared sane, the following legal procedures will apply.
Earlier, the KPK named Enembe along with PT Tabi Bangun Papua (TBP) director Rijatono Lakka (RL) as suspects in cases of alleged bribery and bribery related to infrastructure development projects in Papua province.
The Lakka suspect handed over 1 billion rupees to Enembe after being selected to work on three infrastructure projects at the Papua provincial government.
The three projects include the “multi-year” project to improve Entrop-Hamadi road with a project value of Rp. 14.8 billion, the “multi-year” project to rehabilitate Integration PAUD in support of structures and infrastructures with a project value of Rp. 13.3 billion, and the AURI “multi-year” environmental management project for outdoor shooting venues” with a project value of IDR 12.9 billion.
Meanwhile, a supporter of the governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, died in a riot that took place at the airport in Sentani, Jayapura, Papua, when KPK officials wanted to bring the suspect in the bribery and tip case to Jakarta.
As many as four people in a mob carrying sharp weapons were shot with security bullets, one of them died, the news agency said. Between.
According to report by journalist Yuliana Lantipo from Jayapura, the mob tried to reach Sentani airport in hopes of preventing the governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, from being arrested and flown to Jakarta.
Some of them even carried bows.
“Police were seen blocking the road leading to the airport and driving away the masses. The sound of gunfire was heard several times. Even uniformed policemen were seen carrying guns,” Yuliana told BBC News Indonesia.
In addition to the airport, several people also visited the Papua Mobile Brigade headquarters, where Lukas Enembe was held after being arrested. They came after receiving information from the short message group.
“They threw stones inside because the main gate was closed,” Yuliana said.
However, that didn’t last long. Less than an hour from the Kotaraja Mobile Brigade headquarters, Lukas Enembe was immediately taken to Sentani airfield.
Journalist Yuliana Lantipo, writing for BBC News Indonesia, said the atmosphere in Jayapura had returned to normal.
Meanwhile, regarding the arrest of Lukas Enembe, President Joko Widodo said that all citizens have “the same position before the law” and “we must respect the legal process”.
“I think if the Corruption Eradication Committee had noticed, they would already have the facts, the evidence is certain,” Jokowi said after attending the PDI Perjuangan 50th Birthday Commemoration (HUT) in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/01).
How was Lukas Enembe arrested?
KPK President Firli Bahuri said in his statement on Tuesday that his agency had received intelligence that Lukas was planning to travel to Tolikara Regency via Sentani Airport.
“It could be how suspect LE left Indonesia,” Firli said as reported by Between.
The KPK then contacted the Deputy Regional Police Chief, Brimob Unit Commander and Binda Papua Chief to assist in the attempted arrest at Sentani Airport. Lukas was finally arrested in the Abepura area at 12:27 WIT, Firli added.
