KPK admits it wasn’t difficult forcibly taking Lukas Enembe, but …

GIACARTA, KOMPAS.com – Vice-President of the Commission for the Eradication of Corruption (KPK) Alexander Marwata admitted that it was not difficult for the KPK to forcibly remove the governor of Papua. Luca Enembe using all available power.

However, Alex stressed that the KPK must carefully consider this option so that there are no riots due to Lukas’ forced withdrawal.

“Obviously it is not a difficult problem to take it by force exerting all our strength, but first there was the risk that we had to consider there,” Alex said in a press conference on Monday (3/10/2022).

Therefore, Alex said, the KPK still prioritizes a cooperative approach so that Lukas cooperates in fulfilling the KPK summons to be investigated as a suspect.

He said the persuasive effort had been relayed by the KPK through Luke’s attorney as well as the regional police chief and regional military commander in Papua.

He stressed that the KPK would continue to respect Luke’s health by facilitating a medical examination before Lukas was examined.

Alex also confirmed that if Luke had really been ill, the KPK would have facilitated Luke’s treatment in Jakarta until he was declared ready to be examined as a suspect.

“If he’s really sick, he’ll be taken to the RSPAD, to the best doctor here and we’ll deliver if the affected person needs to be treated in the hospital,” said Alex.

Previously, Lukas had been summoned by the KPK twice, precisely on 12 and 26 September. However, Luke did not fulfill the call due to illness.

Meanwhile, Luke’s house in Jayapura was guarded by a number of mobs. On the other hand, the National Police Headquarters alerted 1,800 people in Papua to support the needs of the KPK if needed.
