KPK Admits Fired Security Guards Spreading Flag Photos Related to HTI

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Corruption Eradication Commission (NCP) admitted to firing a former security officer (security guard) named Iwan Ismail some time ago. The dismissal was carried out because Iwan spread false news or hoaxes and misled outsiders regarding the installation flag related to Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI).

This was conveyed by Acting KPK Spokesperson Ali Fikri in response to an open letter from KPK, Iwan Ismail, who felt he was dismissed for distributing a photo of the flag that was installed on one of the KPK employees’ desks.

Ali said after the photo circulated on social media, his party immediately examined several witnesses, evidence and other supporting information.

As a result, the employee who put up the flag was proven to have no affiliation with HTI so that there were no regulations prohibiting his actions.

“The employee who put up the flag was proven to have no affiliation with the banned group/organization, so there are no regulations prohibiting his actions,” Ali said in his statement, Friday (1/10).

Because of that, its distribution is considered as spreading false news that is misleading.

“It was concluded that the person concerned intentionally and without rights had spread false and misleading information to external parties,” said Ali.

According to Ali, Iwan’s actions have also caused hatred from the public which has an impact on reducing the image and good name of the KPK.

Furthermore, he said the act was also included in the category of serious offenses. As stated in Article 8 letter s Perkom Number 10 of 2016 on Employee Discipline and KPK Advisors.

“The actions in question also violate the KPK’s Code of Ethics as regulated by Perkom Number 07 of 2013 concerning Personal Basic Values, the Code of Ethics, and the KPK Code of Conduct,” he said.

Iwan is also considered to have violated the values of integrity, professionalism, to create a conducive and harmonious work environment.

Ali also reminded all KPK employees to be able to maintain religious harmony by avoiding the use of attributes of each religion in the KPK work environment.

“Unless it is used as a means of worship,” he concluded.

This case is known to have started from an open letter written by Iwan on Wednesday (29/9). He admitted to photographing the flag on the 10th floor of the KPK Building, which incidentally is an investigator’s room and not just anyone enters the room.

Iwan admitted that taking the photo of the flag coincided with a wave of mass protests that rejected the ratification of the 2019 KPK Law revision. Later, after the photo went viral, he was called and underwent an examination. He was sentenced to dismissal for violating the code of ethics.

“They explained that my report or BAP was a violation of the code of ethics, he said, and was a serious violation because they had already contributed to the knock on the new KPK Law,” Iwan wrote in his letter.
