Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka does not want the Child Protection Law to be used as a tool to criminalize teachers. KPAI Chairperson Ai Maryati Solihah believes that the Child Protection Law is a regulation that will protect children, especially school students.
“The school is in the top 5 violators of children’s rights. This means that it is not a weapon of child protection law, but a regulation that protects children,” said Maryati, when contacted you, Monday (11/11/2024) .
Ai Maryati said she wanted a record for an audience with Gibran regarding child protection issues. The request for the record was submitted before Gibran issued a statement at the Kadisdik Coordination Meeting across Indonesia.

“We will meet and ask for coordination, an audience with the Vice President. Actually, it is not just about this statement, but in fact we will provide various results from public complaints, especially our data table. Ai Maryati asked that the Child Protection Law not be confused with the criminalization of teachers. As for the protection of teachers, according to him, it is not linked to the Child Protection Law.
“In the context of teacher protection, this is a reinterpretation and revival of Law number 14 of 2005 regarding Teachers and Lecturers. Has the activation or revival of teacher protection already begun or is it not in this law?” he said.
“Actually, if teachers want to show that we are improving protection, that does not go against the Child Protection Law because the Child Protection Law is very universal and it is not regional,” he said.
Before that, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka identified teacher criminals in a coordination meeting with Kadisdik throughout Indonesia. Gibran asked that the Child Protection Act not be used as a tool to criminalize teachers.
Gibran first talked about schools needing to be a safe place for students and teachers. He asked that there be no more cases of violence, bullying or criminality of teachers.

Gibran then spoke about the Child Protection Act. He said the law was now being used to criminalize teachers.
“There is already a child protection law, but don’t use this law as a weapon to attack teachers,” he said.
