Kovach has signed a contract with Vfl Wolfsburg until 2025, replacing Florian Kofelt, who led the team for part of the season and led the Wolfsburg club to only 12th place in the Bundesliga. I am a child of the Bundesliga and I have a great desire and motivation to open a new chapter in my career leading wolves. I am very excited about the opportunity to change the club’s environment and succeed in Wolfsburg with my coaching staff. The team has great potential and the conditions for success here are ideal, ”quotes Kovačs on the club’s website.
The Croatian specialist with Bayern won both the title of the Bundesliga and the German Cup in the 2018/2019 season, but was fired after the start of the next season. Kovač became Bayern’s coach after a very successful career at Frankfurt’s Eintracht, where he made it to the finals of the German Cup in 2017, and won the Cup a year later.
The club’s sports director Jürgs Šmadke admitted that it was important to hire a coach in time, but the main factor was to find a coach who would be able to develop the Wolfsburg team in the long run. “I am very pleased that I managed to convince Niko with his vision and include him in the team. His core values are consistent and successful work, and I believe that the team will prove these values in the coming years, ”said Šmadke.
This season, for the 32nd time in the history of the club and for the tenth year in a row, Bayern became the champion of the Bundesliga.
