– I love Rosenborg. It is very interesting, motivating and fun to lead the club, and at times it is also very demanding and challenging. Now I am very happy that Kjetil Rekdal and Geir Frigård are in place, and I am pleased to note that there is great enthusiasm for the new coaching team, says Koteng and continues:
– I hope that all Rosenborgers will move in the same direction in the future, so that the club is once again characterized by good footing. If my choice not to run as a candidate can help bring the club together, I am very happy, says Koteng.
He was elected chairman of the board in Rosenborg in 2012.
When Kåre Ingebrigtsen came in as head coach in 2014, a period of sporting ups followed, before it really started to “boil” around Koteng when the former was fired in the summer of 2018.
This was followed by a trial against Ingebrigtsen and Hoftun, as well as one power struggle against Ståle Gjersvold about re-election as chairman of the board in 2020. Koteng has been central in the media image around RBK during the coaching appointments of Eirik Horneland, Åge Hareide and in the last autumn looking for a new coach. As is well known, it did not end there with Kjetil Knutsen, but Rekdal, as boss in the end.
The nomination committee in RBK is now working on making its recommendation for the annual meeting, the club reports. It is scheduled for February 17.
Koteng and Rosenborg recently hired Kjetil Rekdal as the new head coach. He takes over from Åge Hareide. Rosenborg finished fifth in the Elite Series 2021.
