Emmanuel Macron changes the name of his party.
From now on from “Republic, forward!” it will be called “Renaissance” (in French – Renaissance). It is a “people’s party that aims to be open” to citizens and elected officials “regardless of where they come from,” its chairman, Stanislas Gerini, was quoted as saying by AFP.
“We are launching a movement to reform the Republic, forward!” So that we can continue to expand this political movement, created by President Emmanuel Macron a little over six years ago, into a political party called the Revival, Gerini said. .
He made the statement at a news conference in Paris, attended by former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe (of the right-wing Horizonti party), Parliamentary Speaker Richard Ferran of the ruling party and former Minister Francois Beiro (Democratic Movement). They announced that these presidential majority parties are forming an alliance called “Together” to run in the June 12th and 19th parliamentary elections.
The president was re-elected with 58.55 per cent of the vote in the second round on April 24th, but his clash with far-right candidate Marine Le Pen (who received 41.45 per cent) showed the country was severely divided.
