The tension related to the census revolved around the census of the diaspora, which led to its postponement. “The postponement was requested by the opposition VMRO – DPMNE because of the technology and because of the scope of the citizens of RSM. Their position is that only those living in the country should be counted, and the diaspora should be counted separately. “
According to Filipov, the practice of party leaders to resolve important issues of the state outside the institutions is “extremely indicative of the level of democratic process in the RSM.”
“There are prospects that with the active support of the diaspora, the percentage of Albanians will increase. The percentage of Albanians in the demographic picture determines their percentage in the government. So far it has been 1/4, so for almost 20 years now, every fourth official must be an ethnic Albanian. This is the great fear of the politicians in RSM. The other fear is how many Bulgarians will enroll in the census. “
The PCM population census will be conducted between September 5th and 25th.
