A lightning bolt, soon followed by a loud bang. That was the starting signal for a short but heavy thunderstorm on Monday evening around 7.15 pm. At the Fluvia fire brigade zone, some 55 reports of flooding were received mainly from Kortrijk, the sub-municipality of Marke and Rekkem (Menen).
Just like Thursday evening, the tunnel in the Felix de Bethunelaan was filled with water in no time. A motorist from Bissegem got stuck and had to have her car towed away.
The tunnel is often flooded. Now it had to do with leaves on the sewer cover.
