If you get the coronavirus, you have a greater risk of getting sick if you have received the Pfizer vaccine instead of the Moderna vaccine.
–
– You are better protected with Moderna than Pfizer, especially against the delta variant. This means that those who have been vaccinated with Pfizer are more likely to become infected and get a mild illness, says vaccine manager Geir Bukholm at the National Institute of Public Health to VG.
One possible explanation is that one dose of Moderna vaccine contains 100 milligrams of RNA active substance, while Pfizer has 30 milligrams. The active substance causes the body to produce antibodies that protect against the coronavirus and prevent it from attaching to the body.
Just over 6.15 million Pfizer doses and 1.78 million Moderna doses have been given in Norway.
The risk of becoming infected is still far lower for vaccinated than unvaccinated. The same applies to the risk of serious illness.
