– We are uncertain about what the fluctuations in the infection numbers mean, but compared to the hospitalization numbers, especially in northern Norway, it is clear that the trend is increasing again, he says to VG.
It can now be difficult to compare infection rates over time because test systems have changed. The number of tests registered with the National Institute of Public Health has fallen sharply in recent weeks. However, many test themselves at home, and the dark numbers may be greater than before, according to Nakstad.
– This makes it more difficult for us to see the infection trends and we have to rely more on the hospitalization figures – which from experience change 1-2 weeks after the infection figures do so, he says.
Several fully vaccinated people are being infected in Norway now. Most people get a mild course of the disease, Nakstad points out.
– Nevertheless, we are a little worried that more fully vaccinated people will also be admitted to hospital. This is a trend that has been increasing since this summer.
