Korkino is suffering from riots against the Roma.

On the evening of October 24, hundreds of Korkino residents gathered near a house with representatives of the Roma diaspora. People have been found guilty of murdering two Roma visitors.

According to local Telegram channels and witnesses, an angry mob started throwing stones and petrol bombs at the house, and setting nearby cars on fire. Special security forces arrived at the site, cordoned off the building and pushed the crowd away from the facility.

After this, scattered groups of protesters spread throughout the city, setting fire to two more houses and several cars belonging to representatives of the Roma community. The authorities immediately responded to the incident: the governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Alexey Teksler, sent two of his deputies and additional forces of the Russian Guard to Korkino.

Local publication 74.ru reports that due to the escalation of the situation, representatives of the Roma diaspora left the city en masse, traveling to nearby Yemanzhelinsk.

The media also reported that one of the murder suspects, a 17-year-old teenager, was detained. However, the regional department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said that his involvement in the crime has not yet been confirmed. Later it became known that another suspect was detained, which caused more tension among the residents of the town.

Now tighter control has been established in Korkino: the houses of the Roma diaspora are surrounded by security forces, and additional forces of the Russian Guard and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been sent into the city . The activity of the activists has started to decrease, but the situation is still tense.

According to doctors, two victims were taken to the hospital; their lives are not in danger. In total, about 40 people were detained in Korkino – including both disaffected local residents and representatives of the Roma community.
