Korean forest mosquito found in the Netherlands for the first time

The forest mosquito was found this month during a campaign to combat the Asian tiger mosquito in Montfoort in Utrecht. This is reported by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). on the website.

The bosmug does not naturally occur in the Netherlands. Such species can be harmful to nature. Therefore NVWA fights them. The exotic can arrive here via international transport or via tourism. The chance that the exotic mosquitoes found in the Netherlands will already transmit diseases is negligible.

At the moment there are no indications that a population of the Korean forest mosquito has already built up in the Netherlands. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water.

To clean

The NVWA calls on people to empty and clean containers, flower pots or, for example, watering cans with a layer of water. It also helps to regularly change water in, for example, bird baths and drinking troughs.
