Korean Figure Skater Cha Jun-hwan Returns Home with Silver Medal from World Team Trophy

Cha Jun-hwan (22? Korea University), who captained the Korean national team at the International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating World Team Trophy, was confident of the bright future of Korean figure skating.

Cha Jun-hwan, who participated as captain in the team trophy that ended in Tokyo, Japan on the 16th, returned home with his colleagues on the 17th.

Cha Jun-hwan, who met with reporters after arriving at Gimpo Airport, said, “I had a strong desire to have a good experience and enjoy the tournament as it was my first time participating in the team trophy. At the same time, he tried to do his best, but good results came out.”

In the Team Trophy competition, a total of six countries with the best results during the season participated, and ranking points were given to each ranking in men’s and women’s single and pair short programs, free skating, ice dance, rhythm dance, and free dance, and then added up to determine the final ranking by country. Cha Jun-hwan of the men’s singles ranked second in the short program and first in the free skating, scoring a total of 23 points, contributing greatly to Korea’s (95 points) second place following the United States’ (120 points).

Cha Jun-hwan said, “Thanks to the hard work of my teammates until the second day of the competition, the overall team ranking was high. He wanted to finish with good grades as much as he did his acting at the end. After going to the ice rink, I focused on my acting,” he said. “I was very happy when the final result was confirmed as second place after the game. I was very satisfied with the thought that I helped the players in their efforts.”

Cha Jun-hwan explained, “If I had to describe Korea in this tournament in one word, it would be ‘attention.

The average age of the Korean national team was 20 years old, the youngest among the teams participating in the tournament, and they drew a lot of attention for their enjoyment throughout the tournament. After winning the silver medal, she performed the dance moves of the popular idol group New Jeans’ representative song ‘Attention’, giving figure skating fans pleasure. Captain Cha Jun-hwan, who happily led the national team throughout the tournament, did not forget to thank his teammates.

Cha Jun-hwan said, “We were the youngest team among the teams that participated in this tournament, but we showed the best fighting spirit and passion. In particular, the players who competed in singles were in a more difficult situation as they had to compete for the world championships. Nevertheless, while maintaining his condition well, he faithfully prepared for this tournament and showed all his skills,” applauded his teammates.

“Actually, Korea is like a new team. The ice dance and pairs players made their debut on the senior stage, and they performed a match that deserved applause. We look forward to the future,” he added.

Cha Jun-hwan showed a wonderful performance on the rink, and outside the stadium, along with Lee Si-hyeong (23? Korea University), he played the role of the cheerleader.

Cha Jun-hwan said, “All the players cheered so hard that it was hard to distinguish superiority and inferiority. Everyone prepared cheering to bring their own characters to life,” he laughed out loud, saying, “If you rank cheering for this tournament in terms of grades, Korea is number one.”

Cha Jun-hwan, who finished this season with the team trophy, said, “In the beginning, it was very difficult and there were many twists and turns.”
