A Korean court ruled acknowledging the Japanese government’s liability for compensation for victims of Japanese military comfort women.
According to Korean media, the 34th section of the Civil Agreement of the Seoul Central District Court paid 100 million won per plaintiff to the Japanese government in a lawsuit filed against the Japanese government by 12 victims of the violation, including the late Chun-hee Bae, on the 8th. To do it.
This is the first time that a Korean court has sentenced a ruling in a lawsuit against the Japanese government for damages.
The judge said in the ruling that the Japanese military comfort women issue was “a crime against humanity that was extensively committed systematically and intentionally by the Japanese Empire.” The Japanese government said that it is a crime against humanity at the national level and that it cannot file a lawsuit against other countries. They said they couldn’t accept the claim.
The Japanese government strongly opposed the ruling of the Korean court.
Japan’s Minister of Justice Kato Katsunobu said at a press conference that the ruling was “never acceptable” and that “as a state, I will strongly demand that Korea take appropriate measures to correct violations of international law.”
On the other hand, the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a commentary by a spokesman that “we respect the judgment of the court” and that “we will do all that our government can to restore the honor and dignity of the victims of comfort women.”
