The International Future Society (Chairman Ahn Jong-bae) and the Artificial Intelligence Global Education Institute (Director Shim Hyun-soo) collaborated with Grace Mission University (GMU, President Choi Gyu-nam) located in Fullerton, near Los Angeles, to launch the first ‘ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence Pastoral Mission Instructor’ in the Americas. The course was held successfully. This training, held on the GMU campus for two days from November 26th to 27th (Korean time), is an AI-use education in the field of ministry and missions in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). In the era of human revolution driven by artificial intelligence over the past few years, about 50 missionaries, pastors, and theology professors from GMU who wanted to learn innovative approaches to ministry and missions attended and discussed various ways to utilize ChatGPT and 12 types of generative artificial intelligence. In particular, the method of implementing a creative and ethical approach in ministry and missions through AI technology was emphasized, receiving a warm response from attendees.
The ChatGPT artificial intelligence pastoral mission leader training course consists of △writing and composing sacred poetry and CCM based on the Bible △producing sacred paintings and videos using AI △producing AI multimedia for ministry and missions △pastoral mission content using artificial intelligence and avatar video production △Production of pastoral missionary animation using artificial intelligence △Foreign language communication and foreign language pastoral missionary video using artificial intelligence It consists of practical content such as production. In addition, the ethical standards required in the AI era and the direction of AI use were also presented from a Biblical perspective and how to use it for good with a religious calling.
This training was accomplished through close cooperation between the International Future Society and GMU. The two organizations will continue to work together to lay the foundation for responding to the civilizational changes that AI will bring from a religious perspective through AI education, and to expand the potential for good use of AI in the fields of ministry and missions.
Those who completed the training course acquired the registered private certification ‘ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence Instructor Level 1’ (Ministry of Science and ICT, Supervised by the International Future Society), and felt that their pastoral and missionary capabilities using AI were upgraded. He expressed his deep gratitude.
Meanwhile, the International Future Society and GMU signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on November 27, once again confirming their joint vision to spread AI ethics and strengthen AI utilization capabilities from a Christian perspective. With this MOU, we agreed to establish the American headquarters of the International Future Society and the Artificial Intelligence Global Education Institute within GMU, and agreed to actively expand AI education and research targeting pastors, missionaries, and Christian communities in the Americas. .
Jongbae Ahn, President of the International Future Society, said, “This process and agreement is an important first step that opens up new possibilities for using AI from a Christian faith perspective,” and added, “The church and Christians will lead the era of human revolution in the right direction and use AI. “I will strive to contribute to accomplishing God’s work by using it as a tool for ministry and missions,” he said. Director Shim Hyun-soo also expressed his determination to “suggest a direction for using AI ethically and religiously, and spread a new ministry and missionary model suited to the AI era.”

We explored the potential biases within AI models and discussed guidelines for ensuring responsible and transparent use. Furthermore,we grounded our discussions in Biblical principles,emphasizing that AI should ultimately serve to enhance human connection and amplify the message of faith,not replace human interaction or diminish the role of clergy.
**WTN:** The launch of an American headquarters for both the International Future Society and the Artificial Intelligence Global Education Institute within Grace Mission University signals a long-term commitment to this initiative. What are your future plans for expanding this program?
**Dr. Shim:** We are committed to making this training accessible to a wider range of religious communities. We plan to develop online courses and workshops, translate materials into multiple languages, and collaborate with other theological institutions worldwide.
