Hwang Seon-hong defeated Kyrgyzstan thanks to Jung Woo-young’s multiple goals and earned a ticket to the quarterfinals of the Asian Games.
The Korean U-24 soccer team, led by coach Hwang Seon-hong, defeated Kyrgyzstan 5-1 in the men’s soccer round of 16 of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at Jinhua Sports Center Stadium in Zhejiang, China, on the 27th.
Jung Woo-young continued the victory by scoring multiple goals.
Seol Young-woo added his strength by taking two penalty kicks.
In the 10th minute of the first half, Korea took a 2-0 lead with Seol Young-woo’s penalty kick, which Baek Seung-ho put into the right corner, followed by Jung Woo-young’s header.
However, a moment of inattention allowed the opponent to counterattack.
In the 28th minute of the first half, the ball that Baek Seung-ho lost to Maksat Aligulov led to the opponent’s make-up goal.
It was Korea’s first goal conceded in this tournament.
Korea, which was shaken, came back to life with the introduction of Ko Young-jun in the 15th minute of the second half.
In the 29th minute of the second half, Seol Young-woo took another penalty kick, and Jung Woo-young calmly pushed the ball in to score an additional point.
Cho Young-wook scored in the 34th minute of the second half and Hong Hyun-seok scored in the 40th minute of the second half, putting the team in a position to advance to the quarterfinals.
Korea, which is attempting to win its third consecutive Asian Games title, will move to the Hangzhou Huanglong Sports Center Stadium on the 1st of next month to compete with the host country, China, in the semifinals.
Korea recorded 1 win and 1 loss in two meetings with China last June.
