Jonatan Christie achieve a dramatic victory to advance to the semifinals Korea Open 2022 after defeating the Thai men’s singles Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the quarter-finals, Friday (8/4).
In the match which took place at the Palma Indoor Stadium, Suncheon, Jonathan was unable to do much against the eighth seed and lost two straight games.
In the first game, Jojo lost 8-21. However, Jonathan, who is the third seed at the 2022 Korea Open, was able to turn things around even though he was under pressure.
In the second game, Jonathan was also more in a position behind Kunlavut, even up to the interval. Jojo was only able to rise in position 16-16. After finding the best rhythm, Jonathan closed the second game with a 21-17 advantage.
Jonathan is back under pressure in the decider. Through a slick net game, Kunlavut was able to lead 11-7 over Jonathan at the interval.
But again, Jojo managed to turn things around when Kunlavut was stagnant at 12 points. Jonathan was able to lead up to 15-12 and then 17-14.
Slowly but surely Jonathan continued to gain points. Jojo led 19-16 after Kunlavut shot wide. Jonathan was then in a position of match point 20-16 after Kunlavut’s shot went wide again.
Kunlavut was close to 19-20, but Jonathan finally made it to the semifinals of the Korea Open 2022 after the Thai player’s shot went wide.
Jonathan qualified for the semifinals of the Korea Open 2022 with wins 8-21, 21-17 and 21-19.
Indonesia still has one representative in the men’s singles who will appear in the quarter-finals of the Korea Open 2022. Shesar Hiren Rhustavito will face Victor Svendsen in the quarter-finals.
