Indonesian men’s doubles Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana lost dramatically and failed to qualify for the semifinals of the Korea Masters 2022 after being defeated by Hiroki Okamura/Masayuki Onodera at Gwangju Yeonju Stadium, Friday (15/4).
The fierce duel between Fikri/Bagas against Hiroki/Masayuki has occurred since the first game. The two mixed doubles repeatedly switched positions to lead the match. Even Fikri/Bagas was in a position game point 20-19 before Hiroki/Masayuki reversed the situation to win 25-23.
In the second game, Fikri/Bagas showed extraordinary fighting power. Having fallen behind 6-1, Fikri/Bagas were able to bounce back after the interval to win a tight 21-19 victory over Hiroki/Masayuki.
In the game to determine the fierce duel again, Fikri/Bagas took the lead several times, but Hiroki/Masayuki were always able to get up and get close to the points.
The match became more interesting after Hiroki/Masayuki were able to equalize the points earned by Fikri/Bagas in the 17-17 and 18-18 positions. The Japanese pair then had the upper hand at 20-18.
But two match point that owned by Hiroki/Masayuki failed to be utilized. Because Fikri / Bagas managed to equalize 20-20 and forced deuce. The extraordinary struggle of Fikri/Bagas finally stopped after losing 20-22 in the third game.
In the semifinals of the Korea Masters 2022, Hiroki/Masayuki will face the winner of the Korean doubles duel Kang Minhyuk/Seo Seungjae vs Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang.
The defeat of Fikri/Bagas also made Indonesia no longer have a representative at the 2022 Korea Masters.
