SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won discusses future talent with scholars at the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies 50th Anniversary Conference.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary on the 26th, the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies will hold the ‘Future Talent Conference’ with the themes of ‘Finding the path of humanity in the forest of talent’ and ‘Finding innovation on the road not taken’ at the Walkerhill Hotel in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. It was announced on the 24th that it would do so.
The Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies, established in 1974 by the late late SK Chairman Choi Jong-hyeon, has so far trained nearly 1,000 people with doctoral degrees and more than 5,000 talented people.
This future talent conference, planned to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its founding, will discuss future talent with convergent thinking and collaboration skills, share the foundation’s direction for nurturing talent, and specify a new vision and mission for the next 50 years. It will also provide a venue for heated discussions to jointly address challenging and bold questions in the field of science and technology to provide vision and inspiration to future generations.
In the ‘Talent Talk’ session held under the theme ‘Finding humanity’s path in the forest of talent’, the core competencies of talent required in the future will be discussed with about 200 students from the humanities and science and engineering fields, and the university’s capabilities in the era of artificial intelligence (AI) will be discussed. We also look at challenges in the educational field, including roles. In particular, we will explore ways to foster talent with convergent thinking and cooperation skills in the new era of digital revolution and sustainability through Q&A with students.
SK Chairman Choi Tae-won, chairman of the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies, will participate as a panelist in the talent talk session and discuss future talent with Professor Dae-yeol Lee of Johns Hopkins University, Professor Seok-jae Lee of Seoul National University, Professor Jin-hyung Lee of Stanford University, Professor Jong-eun Kim of the University of Maryland, and Seong-hyeon Park, CEO of Rebellion. The session will be chaired by Taejae University President Jae-ho Yeom.
In the ‘Grand Quest’ session held under the theme ‘Finding innovation in the path not taken’, we will meet with scholars from each field to find answers to challenging questions in 10 fields of science and technology, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, and reverse aging. Future talents in science and engineering discuss together.
Top scholars at home and abroad, including Professor Lee Jeong-dong of Seoul National University’s College of Engineering, who planned the Grand Quest session, KAIST Professor Sang-yeop Lee, Professor Lee Jun-ho of Seoul National University, Professor Yeom Han-woong of POSTECH, Professor Park Nam-gyu of Sungkyunkwan University, Professor Seok Min-gu of Columbia University, and Professor Ki-tae Nam of Seoul National University gathered to discuss △virtual reality and intracerebral reality △ Coexistence of general artificial intelligence and humans △Post-silicon semiconductor devices △Spatial displays △New virus prevention vaccines △We will provide vision and inspiration to future talent by solving difficult problems in the field of science and technology, such as the conversion of greenhouse gases into plastic based on microbial cell factories, with science and engineering students.
Meanwhile, after the Future Talent Conference, an internal event is scheduled where Chairman Choi Tae-won and foundation scholarship students gather to meet former Chairman Choi, who was restored through AI, through a video. In honor of the founding philosophy of former Chairman Choi, who worked hard throughout his life to contribute to Korea’s academic development and drive national development, it will also present a new vision and mission for the foundation to move forward.
