Korea Development Bank “Headquarters in Busan”… Syndicate “Movement for the resignation of directors”

Southeast Region reorganization in today’s board meeting
“President Kang, who assisted me, is loyal to the government”
“Elevating the Board of Directors to the Burden of Previous Responsibilities”

Korea Development Bank Chairman Kang Seok-hoon, known as President Yoon Seok-yeol’s economics teacher, launched a strong campaign to move to other provinces, which was a promise of President Yoon’s presidential election, along with the organizational reorganization to strengthen the Southeast region centered on Busan.

According to the financial sector on the 28th, the KDB board of directors headed by chairman Kang will approve a reorganization plan to increase the sales organization in the southeast region on the 29th. According to the reorganization plan, the current small financial sector and medium-sized and regional headquarters in Busan and Gyeongnam will be renamed Regional Growth Department and Southeast Regional Headquarters, respectively, and two new financial divisions of the maritime industry will be established under the financial headquarters of the maritime industry. The total number of people in the Southeast region will increase by 54, from 153 to 207.

President Kang, who was also the 19th member of the National Assembly in the Saenuri Party, the predecessor of the ruling party, served as senior secretary for economic affairs in Park Geun-hye’s administration. In the 20th presidential election, he closely assisted then-presidential candidate Yoon and was responsible for economic policy advice and engagement development.

President Kang is showing a willingness to move forward, saying that the transfer to the provinces is a matter decided by the government. Earlier in August, President Yoon stressed once again, “KDB is expected to move to Bu-Ul-Gyeong (Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongnam) regions and play an essential role in the path of maritime urbanization, urbanization logistics and high-tech urbanization of the scientific industry.” they are paying In a press conference on the 100th day of his inauguration in September, President Kang made a statement that the move of headquarters to Busan was irreversible and, during a parliamentary audit last month, said he would directly visit and convince the National Assembly.

However, there are two interpretations on whether the reorganization plan to strengthen the southeast region is on the board’s agenda: President Kang is trying to show his loyalty to the government and that he is trying to disperse responsibilities.

A financial sector official said, “President Kang has raised issues that could be paid directly to the board of directors” and “it is onerous to bear the responsibility for just the transfer of the headquarters.”

In fact, the opposition of the employees is strong. On the same day, Cho Yoon-seung, chairman of the KDB trade union, held a press conference in front of the KDB headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and said, “If President Kang tries to enforce the resolution of the administration, the union will sue and charge all internal and external directors with breach of trust and abuse of power and campaign for their resignations,” he bluffed. The union expects management to announce regular staff appointments early next month and will assign about 100 employees to the southeast region in January next year.At the press conference, opposition politicians such as Seo Yeong-gyo, a leading member of the Democratic Party of Korea, and lawmakers Kim Min-seok and Lee Su-jin attended and supported the union.

Meanwhile, Korea Development Bank (KDB) announced the same day that it will resume the sale of KDB Life Insurance. The basic plan is to sell its entire 92.7% stake in KDB Life Insurance owned by KDB Consus Value PEF, a private equity fund jointly set up by Korea Development Bank and Consus Asset Management.
