Kim Ok-geum and Park Hong-jo defeated China 144-141 in the mixed W1 doubles final at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games held at the Fuyinhu Sports Center in Hangzhou, China on the 26th, giving Korea the first gold medal in archery.
Korea scored 38 points in the final 4 ends, one point behind, while China only scored 34 points. Park Hong-jo said, “The opponent couldn’t score 11 points, so I thought we could win if we played well,” and Kim Ok-geum also said, “We endured a difficult time by doing physical exercise and night exercise. “I will humbly prepare to win the individual competition on the 28th,” he said.
Kim Jeong-bin and competition partner Yoon Jung-heon (32, Jeonbuk Disabled Cycling Federation) crossed the finish line in first place (23 minutes, 13.71 seconds) in the 18.5km road solo for visually impaired (MB) cyclists held at the Chunan Jesou Sports Center Velodrome. It was an overwhelming win, widening the gap by nearly 2 minutes with Indonesia’s Noorfendi-Pradanadiwan Pyar (25 minutes, 12.17 seconds), who came behind them.
Kim Jeong-bin made his name known as Korea’s first gold medalist in the 4000m individual pursuit four days ago. Kim Jeong-bin is also the first Korean player to win two awards.
The road solo is an event where participants start at one-minute intervals and compete for personal records until the finish line. Kim Jeong-bin rides a tandem cycle, a two-seater bicycle, with his non-disabled racing partner Yoon Jung-heon, and the non-disabled pilot holds the handle in front and pedals together.
Paralympic track and field legend Jeon Min-jae (46) took second place (15.26 seconds), 0.7 seconds behind China’s Xu Yiting, in the women’s T36 100m final held at the Olympic Sports Center main stadium. She started last of the seven finalists, but beat five others in a last-minute spurt to win her second silver medal after winning on the 23rd.
Jeon Min-jae, who developed encephalitis of unknown origin at the age of five and is unable to pronounce sentences, said on his smartphone, “I was planning to retire after this competition, but people around me encouraged me, so I am planning to run all the way to the Paris Paralympics.” He added, “I cannot speak and my hands are uncomfortable. When I was having a hard time, feeling lonely, and frustrated, athletics gave me dreams and hope. “Next year, I will sadly say goodbye to athletics, which was my only escape and friend,” he said.
