Mojokerto, Sekilasmedia.com – Koramil 0815/14 Dlanggu Kodim 0815/Mojokerto through the Babinsa actively assist Field Extension Officers (PPL) of the Dlanggu District Agricultural Counseling Center (BPP) in inspecting cattle and goats owned by residents. This was done as an anticipation of foot and mouth disease (FMD), which a few months ago spread in the Mojokerto Regency area as well as being aware of a new Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) outbreak, especially just before the Sacrifice Day.
Like this time, Wednesday (07/06/2023), Babinsa Koramil 0815/14 Dlanggu Sertu Andang Wijaya accompanied PPL BPP Dlanggu to carry out animal inspections in Kalen Hamlet and Simping Hamlet, Kalen Village, Dlanggu. Likewise Bati Tuud Koramil 0815/14 Dlanggu Peltu Giyono together with PPL BPP directly carried out similar activities in Jani Hamlet, Segunung Village.
When confirmed, the BPP Coordinator of Dlanggu District, Supramonorini, SP, said that the purpose of examining cattle and goats owned by residents in the Dlanggu District area was as an anticipatory measure to prevent foot and mouth disease (PMK) and to continue booster vaccines while at the same time being aware of new outbreaks, namely Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) for cattle.
According to information from various sources, that Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is a disease in animals caused by the pox virus. LSD disease attacks cattle, buffalo and several types of wild ruminants (hoofed and pronghorn mammals).
Even though it is not zoonotic or not contagious to humans, LSD causes great harm. Losses incurred in the form of loss of body weight, because the animal does not have an appetite, loss of milk production, infertility in bulls and females, miscarriage and damage to the skin.
Cows that are attacked by LSD show several symptoms such as fever, the appearance of lumps on the skin with clear boundaries, so this disease can also be called skin disease bumps, scabs on the nose and mouth cavity and swelling of the defense glands.
Bati Tuud Koramil 0815/14 Dlanggu Peltu Giyono when at the assistance location said that the Koramil would continue to actively participate in providing assistance to officers in the field. Like today, we carry out inspections of resident cattle and goats and administer injections in the form of aphthogen vaccines and B-Plex-Bolus vitamins. “It was recorded that today we succeeded in injecting dozens of cows and goats,” he said.
We all hope, he continued, that in the future the Dlanggu District area will be spared from foot and mouth disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) outbreaks. “This disease is very detrimental to residents who have cattle or goats or large-scale breeders, for that it must be anticipated early,” he concluded.
