KOPIA Center and INIAP promote sweet potato project in Manabí

PORTOVIEJO, Manabi

The KOPIA Ecuador Center, together with authorities from INIAP Portoviejo, conducted several visits and interviews, which were key to moving forward with the sweet potato cultivation project and other agricultural initiatives in the area.

The team members met with researchers and students from the Polytechnic School of Agriculture of Manabí (ESPAM) and the Technical University of Manabí (UTM), where they interacted with Agronomy students interested in carrying out research projects to increase crop yield.

The research plot of the INIAP Yucca and Sweet Potato Program was also visited, where a study on fertilization and herbicides will be initiated to optimize the management of sweet potato crops.

Water supply

In the Montecristi canton, together with Mayor Jonathan Toro, there was a commitment to collaborate to resolve the water supply problems that affect the Manantiales Association.
The goal is to ensure success in planting 3 hectares of sweet potatoes.

Over the next three years, the KOPIA Ecuador Center, together with INIAP technicians, will support 150 farmers in 8 cantons of Manabí in planting 80 hectares and developing value-added products based on orange sweet potato, which is expected to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for the region.
