The grapes were sour afterwards at the Royal Harmony of Thorn, also known as the Bokken. According to a disappointed conductor Jan Cober, Thorn was not allowed to win. ‘The international aspect of the WMC is apparently more important than the quality of the participants‘, said Cober, who finds the result incomprehensible. ‘It’s sad for the association that they didn’t become world champions here, I would have given them that. Thorn is always a favorite at the WMC so the club always has something to lose and almost nothing to gainCober said. It would be the second time that the Royal Harmony at the WMC would win the world title in the concert department, previously in 1997. Also under the direction of Jan Cober.
