On Thursday morning, King Willem-Alexander paid a visit to the corona test street of GGD Hollands Midden in Leiderdorp. He also visited the GGD office in Leiden and the infectious disease control department, the place where the source and contact investigations into the corona virus take place.

The GGD explained to the King about the working method for the test street. There he spoke with employees who perform the tests. GGD employees compromise every day with the interests of the individual citizen in relation to the importance for public health. Various dilemmas have also been discussed, such as the impact of the virus and quarantine on people’s daily lives.

The dilemmas are tangible time and again when a GGD employee has telephone contact with people about measures that are necessary to prevent the spread of corona. During his visit, the King experienced this himself on the phone.

To conclude the working visit, De Koning had a meeting with several GGD doctors about the process of testing, tracing, informing and reporting, the capacity and the criteria for scaling up and down. The GGD is currently asking people to only have themselves tested if they have complaints.
