JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chairman of the National Commission for Post-Immunization Follow-Up Events (Komnas KIPI) Hindra Irawan Safari said that his party together with Komda KIPI would conduct an audit regarding the case of the Company Battalion A Commander Brimob Polda Maluku Iptu LT, who died after being injected with the Covid-19 vaccine.
“Komnas will be auditing with Komda this afternoon,” Hindra said when contacted by Kompas.com, Monday (5/4/2021).
Hindra said that the temporary suspicion that the Maluku Police Mobile Brigade Commander Iptu LT had died was not due to the effects of the Covid-19 vaccination.
“There is a strong suspicion that the cause of death was not due to vaccination,” he said.
Furthermore, Hindra said, until now there is no evidence to stop the use of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in Indonesia.
Because, he said, vaccination is one of the efforts to stop the transmission of Covid-19, which still takes a long time.
“Because if we stop it, even though the virus is still killing people every day until now, in the fight against this virus, we still need more time to win it,” he concluded.
Previously reported, the Maluku Province Covid-19 Handling Task Force Unit spoke up regarding the death of the Company Commander (Danki) Battalion A Brimob Unit Polda Maluku, Iptu LT on Sunday (4/4/2021) morning.
On Saturday (3/4/2021) night, Iptu LT complained of shortness of breath to his wife.
Prior to that, victims who participated in the mass vaccination at the Maluku Regional Police’s ceremonial field also experienced chills after being injected with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Spokesperson for the Maluku Covid-19 Task Force, Dr. Doni Rerung, confirmed that the victim died due to positive exposure to Covid-19.
According to him, after he died, the body of Iptu LT, who was previously at the Bhayangkara Polda Maluku Hospital, was immediately transferred to M Haulussy Ambon Hospital.
The transplant was performed to perform a molecular rapid test on Iptu LT.
“The result is positive for Covid-19. So that is the cause,” Doni told Kompas.com via cell phone, Sunday night.
Even so, he admitted that there was a possibility that the victim would also die as a result of the aftereffect of the incident after the victim took the vaccination.
“It is suspected that he is KIPI (a follow-up incident post-immunization), it is a co-occurrence due to the effect of the vaccine. So, if people have been vaccinated, they will record complaints or not,” he said.
He admitted, such effects are common during immunization. However, so far there have been no reports of people undergoing vaccination dying after being vaccinated against Covid-19.

According to Doni, the death of Iptu LT was the first in Maluku. Previously, there had not been any cases of someone dying after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine in the region.
Therefore, Doni will coordinate with the Ministry of Health regarding the case.
“This is the first incident, then linked to the vaccine, but the lab test results turned out to be corona positive,” he said.
