The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) disagrees with the demands death sentence filed by the public prosecutor (JPU) to the defendant in the rape case of 13 students in Bandung, Harry Wirawan.
Komnas HAM commissioner Beka Ulung Hapsara said the sentence was against human rights principles.
“Komnas HAM does not agree with the implementation of the death penalty because it is contrary to human rights principles,” Beka said CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (12/1).
Beka said Harry deserved to be punished severely. Moreover, said Beka, these sexual crimes were committed against many people and some were still children.

Previously, Herry Wirawan demanded the death penalty by the Public Prosecutor. Herry was found guilty of committing such acts of obscenity against dozens of his students.

As proof of our commitment to provide a deterrent effect on the perpetrators or on other parties who will commit (sexual) crimes,” said Head of the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office Asep N Mulyana after the trial at the District Court.
