TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The National Human Rights Commission stated that it had received a complaint regarding alleged human rights violations in the Pertamina Plumpang depot fire incident.
Komnas said it was still reviewing the report. “All complaints received will definitely be discussed and there will be procedures,” said Komnas HAM chairman Atnike Nova Sigiro, in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
Atnike said his agency was still checking the completeness of the information being complained about. He said it was also necessary to examine what was demanded by the complainant. In addition, he said Komnas HAM needs to examine whether the cases reported are related to human rights or not.
“If it is judged to be related to human rights violations, Komnas HAM must follow up,” said Atnike. Nevertheless, Atnike said that his institution had yet to come to a conclusion that there were allegations of human rights violations in this case.
The party that reported the incident at the Pertamina depot fire in Plumpang was an institution calling itself the Defenders of the United Motherland. The agency reported the incident to Komnas HAM on Monday, yesterday.
The Pertamina Plumpang depot in North Jakarta caught fire on Friday night, 3 March 2023. As a result, 19 people died and 38 people are currently being treated in hospital. The red rooster spread to the settlements of Rawa Badak Selatan Village residents, including Kampung Tanah Merah, which is located near the depot. Police are still investigating the cause of this fire.
Previously, the Pertamina Plumpang Depot experienced a severe fire on Sunday night, January 18, 2009. The 2009 Pertamina Plumpang Depot fire was caused by human error. Pertamina at that time said that the fire had caused losses of up to around Rp. 17 billion. Meanwhile, one person died as a result of the incident, namely a security guard at the facility.
