What is lecithin
It is a natural substance, mainly of vegetable origin, the main source of which is foods containing a large amount of fat: eggs, liver meat, peanuts, some vegetables and fruits (olives, avocados, cabbage), whole grains, milk and soybeans.
It is believed that the human body needs to receive up to 10 grams of lecithin per day. And some doctors advise to drink it additionally in capsules, since we, allegedly, do not take enough of it from food.
The supplement promises to protect the body from premature aging and counteract the development of cancer, as well as normalize all biochemical reactions in the body, and stimulate the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract.
What Dr. Komarovsky thinks about lecithin
According to the pediatrician, there is no convincing work proving “the great benefits of lecithin”.
“In the overwhelming majority of cases, everything that is written about its excessive use is pure business. That is, there is much more business here than real benefit,” Komarovsky said.
He added that during the breakdown of lecithin in the intestines, substances are formed that have a negative effect on the cardiovascular system. In this regard, there is a certain risk of overdose.
“My family members do not use it, I don’t prescribe it to my patients,” the pediatrician summed up.
