According to Mihhail Kõvart, the chairman of the Center Party, Kadri Simson must continue working as a commissioner of the European Commission, because difficult times require stability and experience.
Kõlvart believes that Kadri Simson has good connections in the commission and considerable merits in ensuring Europe’s gas supply. “It is in the interest of both Estonia and Europe in general that an experienced commissioner, who until now has managed one of Europe’s most important fields, continues,” he said. “I believe that Kadri Simson has done an effective job in a situation where the gas supply of the European Union was still under serious question marks until recently. These difficult moments have been overcome, security of supply has been ensured, thanks to targeted work and close communication with suppliers.”
According to Mihhail Kõvart, the government should recognize Kadri Simsons for his work so far and support him as a worthy candidate, and the talk about Kaja Kallas’ candidacy for commissioner is unfounded. “Unfortunately, under the leadership of Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, the Estonian economy has been in decline for more than two years and there is no clear rescue plan,” said the chairman of the Center Party.
“The country is in a difficult financial situation despite the fact that the budget has grown strongly. Confidence in Kaja Kallas as Prime Minister has dropped significantly domestically. Based on these indicators, we have no certainty that Kaja Kallas would be the best choice for the European Commission. Therefore, I call on various political forces to support the continuation of Kadri Simson as a proven commissioner in the European Commission,” said Kõlvart.
The European People’s Party announced on Thursday that they support the second term of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
