Kollam ∙ Palakkad district had to settle for the third position in the arts festival despite showing good performance. The district won first position in Sanskrit arts festival and third position in Arabic arts festival. The consolation is that the district, which won the silver cup last time with a difference of 20 points, has a difference of only 14 points with Kannur this year. But this year, the district could not overcome the challenge raised by Kannur and Kozhikode. Last year no one from the district participated in the competition in 5 events.
But this time only in the high school category, the district did not have anyone to compete in 3 events. Boys’ Kerala Natanam, Nagaswaram and Veena are the events that have suffered. Many who stood first in the district arts festival were relegated to B and C grades in the state. These children filed a higher appeal but this was also rejected. But those who came to compete through appeal in some items got A grade.
Even if the participants in the state arts festival get A grade through appeal from the district arts festival, their points will not be considered for the title of overall champion. Complaints about judging were raised at the district arts festival venues themselves. If such allegations arising from upazila competitions are not resolved at least in the coming years, the district will again lag behind in the state arts festivals.
