Eden Gardens: Kolkata Knight Riders won by 5 wickets against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament. Kolkata overcame Punjab’s target of 179 runs for seven wickets with the loss of five wickets in a long fight till the last ball.
Captain Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 57 runs in 47 balls, strengthened the Punjab innings. Nine fours and a six flew from Dhawan’s bat. Punjab’s first wicket fell on the last ball of the second over. Prabhsimran Singh, who gave the impression of being dangerous with 12 runs including three fours in eight balls, was caught by Rahmatullah Gurbaz off Harshit Rana. Punjab was shocked when Bhanuka Rajapaksa got out for one down. Rajapakse’s return was in the same manner as Prabhsimran’s exit. Next up was the firework batter Liam Livingston. Caught by Rahmatullah Gurbaz. Nitish Rana returned Shikhar Dhawan, who had crossed the half-century mark. Rishi Dhawan (19 off 11 balls) became Varun Chakraborty’s third victim. Shah Rukh Khan, who scored 21 runs in eight balls (three fours and one six), and Harpreet Brar, who scored 17 runs in nine balls, took Punjab to 179 runs.
