EL NUEVO DIARIO, SPORTS WRITING – The Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis beat the German Oscar Otte 7-6 (6) and 6-1 and equalized the tie between the oceanic team and the German that is played at Am Rothenbaum in Hamburg and than to decide the first and second place in the classification of Group C.
The doubles will decide who will be first and second in the Davis Cup finals to be played in Malaga in November. Both are guaranteed tickets to the quarter-finals.
Jan Lennard Struff beat Max Purcell 6-1 7-5 to take Germany ahead in opening singles, but Kokkinakis then beat Otte after an hour and 45 minutes of play.
The double will be decisive. Locals Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz will play Australians Max Pircell and Matthew Ebden.
