Berlin (AP) – A week before the start of the US Open, the German tennis professionals Dominik Koepfer and Jan-Lennard Struff reached the round of 16 at the ATP tournament in Winston-Salem.
The 27-year-old Koepfer from Donaueschingen defeated the Italian Marco Cecchinato 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 4. For his second-round success, the Davis Cup player needed two hours and ten minutes. To start with, Koepfer, who was seeded at number 16, had a bye.
The Warsteiner Struff, second German starter at the hard court event in North Carolina, prevailed against the Italian Gianluca Mager with 6: 2, 6: 2. The US Open in New York begins next Monday.
