Koenigsegg publicly launched Gemer’s hybrid supersport for the first time, listen to him

Koenigsegg Gemer is – or perhaps will be, the development is still in progress – so far the only hypersport in the world that has a three-cylinder engine inside. This has been known for a long time, gemera introduced herself two years ago. But the world had never heard the three-cylinder before.

Christian von Koenigsegg showed the public a test prototype of the TC1 gemera and did what fans have been waiting for for months – at 2:29, he started the internal combustion engine and revealed to the world what a three-cylinder hypersport sounds like.

The engine is called “Tiny Friendly Giant”, ie “little friendly giant” and is really small, at least in terms of supersports. It has a volume of two liters and thanks to supercharging with two turbochargers, it gives 612 horsepower and 601 Nm, with the proviso that it is able to run on petroleum gasoline, methanol or ethanol E85 or E100.

Because each of these fuels has a different octane number, depending on which driver is refueling, the engine has a different maximum power. This depends on the compression ratio, and thus the boost pressure of the turbochargers, which in the case of a lower octane number of the fuel must be limited in order to avoid detonation combustion.

The engine uses FreeValve technology, which controls the valves with pneumatic pistons instead of camshafts. He can open them faster and more accurately than a cam could. In addition to lower energy consumption, thanks to individual control of individual valves, the engine can run in the classic Otto, Miller or Atkinson cycle, which can reduce fuel consumption with low engine requirements and, conversely, higher power when the driver wants the engine maximum strength.

However, Gemera is a plug-in hybrid and adds three electric motors to the internal combustion engine; one for rear-wheel drive and a third, which is connected to the PTO shaft and helps the three-cylinder drive the front wheels. In this way, the car itself charges a 15kWh battery if needed. The total power of the car is 1,268 megawatts, ie 1,724 horsepower.
