Koenigsegg’s founder and CEO said the first example of the Jesko Absolut has just been delivered to a customer in Switzerland, with more units already in production. The start of deliveries is the right time for a world speed record attempt, something Christian von Koenigsegg has been vocal about since the model’s debut in 2020.
Koenigsegg says: “Hopefully we can break the record this year. “We’re currently looking for a straight section long enough to block traffic, but it’s not that easy.” He also added that this location will most likely be located outside of Sweden.
Koenigsegg believes their previous record of 447.19 km/h, set by the Agera RS in 2017, still stands today as it was achieved by a production car. Speaking about competitors, he said: “Bugatti set a record with a car that customers cannot buy. Even the SSC record was set on a car that is not homologated for road use.” In this context, Koenigsegg made it clear that a new attempt will be made on a production Jesko Absolut, which will be “fully approved for civilian use.”
The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut debuted at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show as the fastest version of the hypercar with an emphasis on top speed, in contrast to the Jesko Attack’s high downforce and giant rear wing. Both versions are powered by the same 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing up to 1,622 hp. when running on E85 fuel. In addition to the updated design, the Absolute features a different gear ratio, different suspension settings and more luggage space.
Simulations show the model’s theoretical top speed is 532 km/h, although this would be difficult to achieve in real-world conditions. In a 2020 interview, Christian von Koenigsegg suggested that the final result depends on the track and the car’s capabilities. Four years later, the company is still searching for the right piece of pavement to unleash the full power of its fastest creation.
