Barcelona –
Barcelona are facing financial difficulties. Ronald Koeman also asked his players to agree on a pay cut to help the club’s finances.
Barcelona’s financial situation has worsened due to the coronavirus pandemic. Barcelona is estimated to have lost around 580 million euros since the start of the pandemic.
Player salaries are one of Barcelona’s biggest expenses. Last season, the Blaugrana spent up to 347 million euros on player salaries.
The salary cap rules or restrictions on player salaries that are applied by LaLiga make Barcelona have to reduce their spending in this sector. According to the news reported SportBarcelona have to cut their salary spending to reach 150 or 160 million euros for the 2020/2021 season.
Barcelona, which has crossed the salary cap limit, has not been able to register its new players such as Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Memphis Depay. Barcelona will also find it difficult to renew Lionel Messi’s contract if they don’t wash the warehouse to reduce the salary burden.
Ronald Koeman hopes the players Barcelona willing to accept a pay cut. According to him, it is a form of player assistance for the club.
“All the players know about the club’s financial situation. We are all worried,” said Koeman as reported by Sport.
“In terms of wages, the club is trying to get the players to agree to a pay cut and they should all accept it.”
“If they are really Bara people, and if they consider everything the club has given them, they should try and agree to this cut. They have to put the club first.”
“COVID-19 has caused a lot of damage. The stadium has been closed for a long time, no one comes to the museum. Various revenue streams are closed,” continued the Dutch coach.
“Now is the time (for the players) to agree to a pay cut to help the club as much as possible. I’m sure all will be well,” said Koeman.
