Kochel am See has a choice this Sunday (January 14th): the village is electing a new mayor. Three candidates are standing for election.
- After the election of Thomas Holz as a member of the state parliament, Kochel am See needs a new mayor.
- Rosi Marksteiner (center), Thomas Bacher (CSU) and Jens Müller (Independent Voters’ Association Kochel/UWK) are standing for election on January 14th.
- 3244 citizens are called to vote. The result will be available here in the live ticker from 6 p.m.
8:44 p.m.: Another look at the districts: In Ried, Jens Müller got 56.8 percent of the votes, Rosi Marksteiner got 24.1 percent, Thomas Bacher got 19.1 percent. In Walchensee, Müller achieved 41 percent, Marksteiner 36.1 percent and Bacher 22.9 percent.
8:31 p.m.: The Kochlers are only called upon to vote again. The runoff election between Jens Müller (UWK) and Rosi Marksteiner will take place on Sunday, January 28th.
7:09 p.m.: The winner of the first round is clearly Jens Müller. “Things are going great. I am very happy. I’m completely flabbergasted.” Of course, he had already received some encouragement in advance. “But that doesn’t have to mean anything.” In the next two weeks there will be time to continue convincing voters. He will take an hour or two every day to be present. He is also planning more posts online.

7:01 p.m.: Rosi Marksteiner is “a little disappointed” with the result, even though she made it to the runoff. “I have significantly fewer votes. I didn’t think the result would be so clear.” Nevertheless, she will give it her all again until the runoff election in two weeks.
19 o’clock: CSU local leader Florian Lantenhammer is “almost a little disappointed” about the outcome of the election. For the first time in decades, the CSU no longer has the head of the town hall in Kochel. “But it is what it is. The citizens have decided.” We shouldn’t bury our heads in the sand. The result now needs to be processed.
6:56 p.m.: Thomas Bacher bears his defeat with composure: “It is the will of the voters,” he says. “That is the will of the voters. I would like to thank my families and of course all the voters who voted for me.”
6:54 p.m.: In percentage terms this means: Jens Müller achieves 45.4 percent and Rosi Marksteiner 30.9 percent. Thomas Bacher comes to 23.7 percent.
6:50 p.m: The result is clear. Jens Müller has 836 votes, Thomas Bacher has 436 votes and Rosi Marksteiner has 568 votes. This means that Rosi Marksteiner and Jens Müller will go into the runoff election.
6.40 p.m.: Managing director Nicole Lutterer will announce the result in the meeting room in a few minutes.
6:32 p.m.: All candidates are looking forward to the result. Rosi Marksteiner went on a ski tour today, Thomas Bacher went for a walk, and Jens Müller said he did a little work.
6:28 p.m.: Walchensee and Ried have been counted. The interim results should come soon. City hall manager Nicole Lutterer would like to first announce the result in full. Counting postal votes is likely to take the longest. The latter takes place in the gym.
6.20 p.m.: All three candidates are waiting for the result in the town hall. Rosi Marksteiner, Jens Müller and Thomas Bacher are sitting in a side room on the ground floor. All three are not very happy about the low voter turnout. That is “disappointing,” says Marksteiner.

6:13 p.m.: If everything goes smoothly, the first results from the polling stations could be available in about 20 minutes.
6:08 p.m.: Including postal voters, voter turnout is 57.68 percent.

Update 6:03 p.m.: The polling stations are closed. The counting has begun. Voter turnout at the polling stations was 45.37 percent. Then there are the postal voters. The highest participation was in Ried with 57.76 percent. Followed by Kochel/School 45.76, Walchensee 43.85 and Kochel/Rathaus with 40.69 percent. 772 voters participated by letter.
Update 1 p.m.: So far only a few Kochlers have voted. As returning officer Nicole Lutterer reports, only 21.7 percent of eligible voters went to the polls by 1 p.m. Most in Walchensee (25 percent), followed by Ried (21.6 percent) as well as in the polling station at school (21 percent) and in the town hall (20.6 percent). Around 750 people take part by postal vote. A total of 3,244 citizens in the municipality are eligible to vote.
The original message
Kochel am See – After the previous Kochl mayor Thomas Holz was elected as a district representative for the CSU in the Bavarian state parliament on October 8th, it was clear: the community needs a new town hall boss. The election must take place within three months. Therefore, the three candidates’ election campaign largely took place in the run-up to Christmas.

Rosi Marksteiner (center), Thomas Bacher (CSU) and Jens Müller (Independent Voters’ Association Kochel/UWK) are standing for election this Sunday. 3,244 Koch residents are eligible to vote, 462 of them in Ried and 401 in Walchensee. The applicants had previously campaigned with varying degrees of intensity. While Marksteiner and Müller invited people to events and posted posters, Bacher refrained from doing so and stated that he would rather donate the money he saved to clubs.

Full house at the Tölzer Kurier panel discussion in the Heimatbühne
But all three answered the questions at the Tölzer Kurier panel discussion on December 18th. The public’s interest was huge. The Kochler home stage was bursting at the seams that evening. The focus was on questions about local development, the future of tourism, affordable housing and the traffic situation in the village.
The polling stations have been open since 8 a.m. You can cast your vote there until 6 p.m. But many have already done this in advance. Ten days before Waltermin, 640 people had already applied for a postal vote.
