Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – Eintracht Frankfurt can hope for a timely return of defense chief Robin Koch before the important international game. The 27-year-old completed his final training session in Frankfurt on Wednesday, but will not be back on the pitch until the weekend at the earliest. The Conference League game on Thursday (9 p.m./RTL) against PAOK Saloniki comes too early, as head coach Dino Toppmöller said on Wednesday.
Koch recently suffered from a calf injury and last played for the Bundesliga club on November 4th. Against the guests from Greece, Eintracht is aiming for group victory. Both clubs will definitely spend the winter in Europe.
Sebastian Rode was again missing from training in wet and cold conditions. The captain also complains about calf problems and has hardly played in the season so far. “The longer you are out, the longer it takes you to get back into the rhythm,” coach Dino Toppmöller said about the 33-year-old last week. In order to move up to first place in the group, Eintracht (nine points) needs a home win against league leaders Saloniki (ten). The Hessians lost the first leg in Greece 2-1 in October.
