Rapper Koba LaD, involved in a fatal accident in Créteil on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday and who was under the influence of “narcotics” at the time of the incident, has been taken into custody, the Créteil prosecutor’s office said on Thursday, contacted by AFP. “He has been taken into custody since 3:00 p.m.”, although he had been hospitalized until then, the source said. The artist was at the wheel during the accident, which killed one of his passengers. An investigation has been opened for involuntary manslaughter by the driver and involuntary injuries by the driver, the prosecutor’s office said.

The 24-year-old rapper, who lives in Essonne, was driving on Tuesday evening, a source close to the case explained, when his vehicle, a luxury sports sedan, arrived “at full speed” on an exit ramp of a gas station on the A86 motorway and hit a parked heavy goods vehicle. The front passenger, born in 1994, died, the prosecutor’s office confirmed on Thursday, indicating that the rear passenger, born in 1999, was slightly injured. The driver of the heavy goods vehicle that was hit was also “slightly injured”, the prosecutor’s office added. A source close to the case had initially indicated that he was unharmed.
Koba LaD was sentenced in 2020 to a three-month suspended prison sentence and 140 hours of community service for a car accident in Marseille. He fled after the incident, before reporting to the police three days later. He was also given a four-month license suspension during a preliminary admission of guilt appearance (“guilty plea” procedure). The artist with more than three million followers on Instagram made his mark on the rap planet in 2018 with his first album “VII”. He released the track “911” at the end of last week alongside rap heavyweights Ninho and Niska.
His latest album, “Frères ennemis”, in collaboration with Zola, another rapper from Essonne, was, according to several specialist media, one of the best debuts of rap albums by a duo. The duo was due to give a concert on Friday evening at the Golden Coast in Dijon, for the first edition of this new 100% rap festival bringing together around forty artists. “Following the recent event, Koba LaD will not perform at the Golden Coast”, the organisers announced on Thursday, specifying that Zola would ultimately be the only one to take the stage.
