KNVB: ‘No fixed Eredivisie program on Sunday evening at 8 p.m.’ | Football

sport">At the presentation of the new match days calendar, the KNVB also announced that no matches are planned for the Sunday evening at 8 p.m. The clubs have talked about including that as a fixed starting time in the league schedule, but the football fans do not like matches on Sunday evening and that is now also being waived. Clubs that play in the Europa League on a Thursday can also request to play next Sunday at 8 p.m. next season.

sport">As a result of the corona crisis and a possible second wave of infections, the KNVB aims for ‘maximum flexibility’ with the match days calendar. The competition must be completed on time because the European Championship will start in June 2021. The Eredivisie starts on September 12, after two international matches from the Dutch national team. Four mid-week rounds are included in the program, the first just before Christmas on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 December.

sport">There will be no real winter break next season. The Eredivisie will resume with a mid-week round on January 12, 13 and 14. Any canceled matches from the first half of the season must be made up during the Christmas holidays. The other midweek rounds are on January 26/27/28 and on Ascension Day, May 13. Three days later, on May 16, is the last round of play.

sport">“Corona taught us that we live in a new reality and with new uncertainties,” says Jan Bluyssen, manager of professional affairs football at the KNVB. “We also want to be able to finish the competition in the event of unexpected interruptions. For this we have built in extra moments when matches can be caught up. We have also created the opportunity to divert to other regions in the Netherlands if regional restrictions apply anywhere. ”

sport">The association wants every club to have played at least fourteen games at the end of the first half of the season, in order to keep the competition as fair as possible. The Eredivisie mainly plays on Saturday and Sunday. At the request of the clubs and agency representative FOX Sports the games start on Saturday evening at 6:45 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm. There may also be games starting on Saturday at 4:30 PM, which would be new. The KNVB expects to be able to present the schedule in the second half of July.
