Peter Bosz has against Monday Veronica Inside confirmed that the KNVB has approached him with a view to the national coaching at Orange. Bayer Leverkusen’s trainer felt that he was not taken very seriously by director Nico-Jan Hoogma.
“I was asked by Nico-Jan if I am available. I then referred him to my employer Leverkusen, where I have just extended my contract for two years,” said Bosz.
“Nico immediately said that they were not going to do that. I therefore do not have the impression that they really wanted me. I was not asked if I want to become national coach, so I did not have to answer that question.”
After periods at Vitesse, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund, 56-year-old Bosz has been coach of Leverkusen since December 2018, where he has a contract until mid-2022.
The KNVB would rather have turned to Frank Rijkaard in vain. It is reported that Frank de Boer is currently a top candidate to succeed Ronald Koeman, who has left for FC Barcelona, as national coach of Orange.
Monday was said to have spoken for the second time with the trainer who became champion with Ajax in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. De Boer has experienced predominantly disappointing periods at Internazionale, Crystal Palace and Atlanta United in recent years.
