In most foods, salt can be the key to everything. This culinary ingredient is important to give flavor, seasoning and excellent flavor to the different dishes that are prepared in the kitchen.

Now, few know how important this product is and what secret it hides behind its use.

First, you must know the different types of salt that exist, their uses and properties. We will list them below:

Himalayan salt: It is the very pure salt from Pakistan. It has a crunchy texture and a coarser grain. It is also known as “pink salt” due to its color, a product of its composition rich in iron. It is ideal for cooking fish and meat on the grill.

Sea salt: It is rich in sodium and chloride. It also contains potassium, calcium, and magnesium. In general, this type of salt does not contain any type of treatment. Its color is pale gray, due to the fact that it contains seaweed.

Common salt: It is known as table salt and is eventually used for cooking. Said salt is chemically treated to obtain greater purity and conservation. The chemical treatment is what makes it have a uniform white color and a good taste.

Rock salt: It comes from the salt mines, from the mineral formed by the crystallization of sodium chloride. It is a salt that has a larger size. Its flavor is bitter and is used to salt.

Black Salt: This product has that characteristic due to its volcanic origin. It has a finer texture and its flavor is not as strong. It is used for fish and grilled meats, vegetables and salads.

Salt flakes: Its elaboration is handmade. It has a crunchy, flaky texture. It is ideal for salads and cooking grilled meat and vegetables.

Eliminating salt is not always the solution

Nutritionists, such as the Spanish María Eugenia Fernández, say that restricting sodium consumption to zero is not always an appropriate practice.

Fernández assured that the body loses large amounts of salt through urine, due to the loss of minerals.

The nutritionist said that “the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends sodium intake in adults of about 5 g / day, the equivalent of a dessert spoon”.

He added that salt should be consumed in moderate amounts and never abused “since sodium is necessary for the function of the nervous and body systems and helps us regulate body fluids.”
