Knitting is my obsession / Article / LSM.lv

The exhibition of knitwear “Yarn Games” by the artist Anita Šaliņa has opened its doors at the Latvian Library for the Blind in Riga.

Knitting has been Shalina’s passion since childhood; she has been knitting especially intensively for the last 30 years, and during that time she has accumulated a huge amount of sweaters, blankets, pillows, capes, scarves and other knits. The closest to the heart are large-scale works.

Now they can be seen on weekdays in the seminar room of the Library for the Blind together with the wickerwork of the Honorary Weaver of Latvia Aleksandrs Lāčs.

Anita Šaliņa has also started cooperating with the Children’s Hospital, giving blankets to babies, and says that she would like to be more actively involved in charity if she could afford to buy more yarn.

Anita Šaliņa: Knitting is my obsessionMara Rosenberg

“Knitting is my life. Not because I would be more attached to the house. Each have their own! For one – to sing, for another – to write poems, for me – to knit. I really like it, I invented everything myself. I really don’t like to knit by some magazines. I don’t need what others have, I only have everything in one copy, ”says Anita Šaliņa.

“It seems to me that it has become a complete obsession for me. I can easily knit for eight hours a day. How I sit down, so knit! Friends already know that I will never sit alone, I always have needles. Sometimes I also knit at night when I can’t sleep. I have the advantage that I don’t need light. I can knit anytime, ”says the blind artist.
