“Knīpas und knauķi” have created a musical play performance for children and parents about emotions / Article

“Knīpas und knauķi” wants to give the Latvian society new knowledge that would help us all become more emotionally educated, learn to communicate better, hear and understand each other – both in the family, in the circle of friends and fellow human beings. In any relationship, the desire and ability to hear plays an important role, perceive and understand the other person, so that we can all feel better in this world. Also, every emotion can be our own friend, if we are able to recognize and understand it,” emphasized Edīte Putniņa, the author of the project idea and teacher of “Klusuma skolas”. The artistic director and choreographer of the performance, Sanita Sējāne, added: “In order to allow us to better recognize and get to know these diverse emotions that rule within us, in the play performance “Explorers of Emotions” the used psychological aspects, the theory of conscious practice and also examples of practical operation play a big role.”

The concert performance “Explorers of Emotions” tells the story of a curious girl Emma and a brave boy Lukka, who travel together and get to know the 12 planets of emotions: joy, anger, happiness, sadness, shyness, friendliness, fear, peace, excitement, gratitude, envy and love. The performance is mainly intended for children of preschool and school age, but it is also possible to watch it for the smallest listeners and spectators together with their parents.

The performance will feature songs from the album “Explorers of Emotions” by the “Knīpas un knauķi” ensemble, which received the “Golden Microphone 2022” award and was recognized as the best music album of the year in the “Musical album for children” category. 12 composers included emotions in the language of music: Andris Sējāns, Līga Celma, Įrts Bišs, Laura Jēkabsone, Jānis Šipkēvics, Jānis Ķirsis, Anita Rezevska, Jonita Štoma, Edīte Putniņa, Andris Kontauts, Āriks Ešenvalds and Sanita Sējāne. The words for all the songs were written by Inga Cipe, the author of children’s poems and lyrics.

The main characters of the performance “Explorers of emotions” are the vocal studio “Knīpas und knauķi”. Live music is performed by professional musicians – Andris Sējāns (piano), Anrijs Grīnbergs (drums, percussion), Roberts Rasa (bass guitar). Director, screenplay author – Inga Cipe. Artistic director, choreographer – Sanita Sēnė. Set designer – Mārtiņš Meļķis. Sound director – Artūrs Sedriks Sinkevičs.
