There was a police operation in the AMS in the Neustadt district of Salzburg on Monday morning. A 33-year-old is said to have threatened several employees with a kitchen knife shortly before 8 a.m., the executive describes in a broadcast. The man said that he “wanted his money,” the police said on SALZBURG24 on Tuesday morning. It is therefore assumed that the 33-year-old was not there by chance. When officers arrived, the suspect attacked and threatened them as well.
Police officer injured after being threatened with a knife
When he was arrested, the Afghan defended himself so badly that a police officer was seriously injured. Contrary to other media reports, the officer was not injured with the knife, but dislocated her shoulder, says the police spokeswoman in the S24 interview. Several officers were finally able to arrest the man with combined forces. He was taken to the police detention center. During the interrogation, the 33-year-old refused to testify. He was transferred to the Salzburg prison and reported for severe coercion.
It is not uncommon for police officers to be injured during operations in Salzburg. In 2021, 61 officers were slightly and two seriously injured, explains the spokeswoman. In recent years, the number of slightly injured officials has always been between 60 and 80 per year. There are no figures available for 2022, which is why it is currently not possible to say whether the incidents will increase.
