Dresden – Fatal knife attack on tourists: in the middle of the Dresdner Altstadt, a few steps away from the Residenzschloss, a tourist (55) from Krefeld was killed on Sunday evening and another man (53) from Cologne was seriously injured. The perpetrator escapedWhat remained was a blood-smeared kitchen knife. The manhunt is in full swing.

The perpetrator had apparently stabbed the two befriended men from North Rhine-Westphalia who were strolling through the old town together at around 9:30 p.m. with a kitchen knife about 30 centimeters long on the corner of Rosmarinstrasse and Schloßstrasse. Then the knife man had fled.
But without his “tools”. That was at the crime scene, between blood-smeared cobblestones and rags of clothing.
The two seriously injured were found by passers-by who called the rescuers. Too late for the 55-year-old: The man from Krefeld succumbed to his serious injuries in hospital shortly afterwards, probably from the stab wounds.
The manhunt was initiated immediately. Mantrailer sniffer dog Olivia followed a first lead in the direction of the Frauenkirche, but that “did not lead to the perpetrator being caught”, so Police spokesman Marko Laske (46).

During the night, forensic technicians and the crime scene group of the LKA Sachsen began their investigations, measured the crime scene and secured traces. Around 20 police officers were on duty.
“According to the current state of the investigation, there is no evidence that the victims knew the perpetrator,” said Chief Public Prosecutor Jürgen Schmidt (44). The “exact sequence of events and the motive” is just as unclear.
There could soon be more clarity about this: The 53-year-old from Cologne is still in the hospital, but can be contacted, as Schmidt announced.
Until 6.30 a.m., Schloßstraße and Rosmaringasse were closed within a radius of about 30 meters from the crime scene. Six comrades of the fire Department cleared the street of the blood of the carnage.

The perpetrator is still running around freely: “Against the background of the crime, the Dresden Police Department will increase its presence in the Dresden city area in the coming days,” said the police spokesman.
