A man in the Irish capital Dublin has injured several people with a large knife. Among the injured are three young children, one of whom suffered serious injuries. The suspect was overpowered and arrested.
The incident happened at around 1.30pm local time at Parnell Square East, close to Choláiste Mhuire School. At that moment the children just came outside, the Irish police said in a statement.
Two adults and three children were injured and taken to hospital. A woman and a young girl suffered serious injuries. The two other children and the suspect himself were treated for minor injuries.
Eyewitnesses say otherwise The Irish Times that the suspect attacked a group of young people with a knife. Bystanders immediately intervened and were able to take the man’s knife. The same eyewitnesses say the man also injured himself. Nothing is yet known about the motive.
The area around the school has been cordoned off and the police and ambulance are present in several vehicles. A police spokesperson was unable to provide additional information.
