The Angels. The New York Knicks are one game away from reaching the NBA conference semifinals. This Sunday they reached three victories against the Philadelphia 76ers, while the Los Angeles Clippers tied the first round tie against the Dallas Mavericks at two.
The New Yorkers beat the Sixers 97-92 in a game in which Jalen Brunson, with 47 points, broke the scoring record for a Knicks player in the postseason. The record was held by Bernard King with 46 points in the 1984 playoffs.
Brunson was the main protagonist of the clash.
“I’ll look back when I retire,” Brunson said of his mark. “This is great now, it helped us get a win. But it’s not going to do anything for us going forward.”
The Knicks now have three opportunities to qualify.
In Dallas, the Clippers overcame the loss of their leader Kawhi Leonard to beat the Mavericks 116-111 in a fast-paced game in which they found themselves behind on the scoreboard two minutes from time after having dominated by 31 points midway through the second quarter.
Paul George and James Harden, both with 33 points, prevailed in their vibrant duel against the Mavericks’ star duo formed by Kyrie Irving, who scored 40, and Luka Doncic, who scored 29 points.
A basket by Irving put the Mavericks ahead for the first time in the game in the fourth quarter. However, Harden and George showed up to rescue the Clippers. Between them, they were in charge of scoring the last 18 points for their team with several impossible baskets that lowered the morale of the Mavericks, whose comeback ended up dying on the shore.
This series now returns to Los Angeles for Game 5 on Wednesday.
